Classic Stories #9 - 50 years of the VW Golf: Svens' Golf Mk3 VR6 syncro Highline from 1996.
High(line) Society:
With the VR6, the third Golf generation brought a six-cylinder engine to the compact class for the first time. In the VR6 syncro with all-road drive, the engine produces a full 140 kW (190 hp) from a displacement of 2.9 litres. Experts immediately recognise from the purple violet pearl effect (L C4P) paintwork that this is also the Highline equipment variant, which Volkswagen offered from 1993 to 1997. As the top model in the Golf Mk3 series, it included many other extras in addition to the Solitude alloy wheels and air conditioning. The interior is particularly different from the other Golf Mk3 models: leather seats in the colour blackberry are just as much a feature of the VR6 Highline as the door sill trims with VR6 lettering. For the first time, various surfaces in the interior were finished with soft lacquer. The wooden gear knob was standard on the VR6 Highline, while the matching wooden steering wheel (fitted here) was available as an original accessory from Votex.
