Classic Stories #8 - 50 years of the VW Golf: Svens' Golf Mk2 GL from 1984.

Maximum equipment, minimum consumption:

A Golf Mk2 GL from the first model year is rare. When there is also a turbo diesel under the bonnet, you can call it a rarity. And when extras such as air conditioning (additional price in model year 1984: DM 2,090), power steering (DM 1,126) and central locking (DM 399) have also been on board since the first delivery, the Mars red Type 19E almost becomes the ‘Blue Mauritius’! The first owner probably wanted to save on consumption first and foremost - at a constant 120 km/h, the Golf Mk2 turbo diesel achieved a standard consumption of 6.1 l/100 km. However, the distinctive turbo diesel lettering in the radiator grille is only found on the early models up to 1987.
