The long road to top new production in 100% Volkswagen quality.
At Volkswagen Classic Parts we always took great importance in expanding the supply of spare parts for the Golf Mk2 and Jetta Mk2. Roof trims in particular have been in high demand for years because they sometimes leak after all these years. Even when dismantled as part of a restoration or repainting, decades-old roof trims usually don’t survive without damage. So the project began to start a new production in 100% Volkswagen quality.
It was clear that the roof trims had to correspond exactly to the factory specifications from A to Z and be perfectly made. Every millimetre has to be right here so that no leaks or wind noise occur later. The effort was enormous: Our experts located the original production tools, had the original drawings digitized from the factory archives and printed out on a scale of 1:1 (!)- and had several discussions with suppliers. All development processes were strictly monitored, materials were checked and dimensions were precisely coordinated. Dozens of sample parts were created in prototype construction. For the test installation of the newly produced roof trims, we were even allowed to use museum vehicles from the Volkswagen collection. Only after successful mountings to various Golf Mk2 and several tests our experts gave a green light for the series production
