In 1974 the first Golf came of the assembly line in Wolfsburg. This was the start of an icon that continues to this day. As a successor to the Beetle, the Golf came up with new inovations like Front-wheel drive and front water cooled engine, to name just a few. This new technic started weeks befor with the Scirocco and the Passat a year earlier. But it was the Golf that reached the masses and now a whole class is named after him. Shortly after, in 1976, the millionth Golf Mk1 was produced and by the end of production in 1983 all models incl. Jetta came to a total of 6.9 million units. This story of a classic must be told.
